One of the Best Meditation Benefits
is Emotional Release

There are so many meditation benefits that I have dedicated a whole separate page to the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual benefits of meditation. But in my opinion, emotional release is one of the greatest of them all, so this page is dedicated to this most healing of meditation benefits.

You see, when you meditate you begin to access your subconscious mind. It is the part of you that you are not aware of in your everyday existence, but what goes on in there affects you greatly.

It is in the subconscious mind that we hold many of our attitudes, memories and beliefs that have accumulated over the years. Often these are hidden from our conscious mind, but they are there none-the-less.

A lot of this "stuff' in the subconscious mind has an emotion attached to it. When we meditate and dip into the subconscious, we can experience the many emotions that are hiding below the surface.

This can create a lot of discomfort - not quite what you were expecting when you began meditating! And this happened to me in a big way, and from my very first meditation. Click here to read my story about what happened when I began meditating - just in case you experience a similar thing.

"Meditation Benefits? But I Feel Terrible!"

Many people have the perception that as soon as they embark on their meditation journey they will feel wonderful - inner peace and serenity will abound! Well, it probably won't be that way in the beginning.

Over time you will experience these benefits, and many more, if you meditate regularly. But initially, meditation can involve a lot of upheaval as those parts of you that are blocking your inner peace and happiness come to the surface to be released.

This means that there will be times when meditation feels very uncomfortable and you may experience a lot of unpleasant emotions.

You may feel very sad for no particular reason, and find yourself crying at the drop of a hat. You may get irritable, anxious, angry, snappy - but you don't know why. You may feel a tremendous sense of grief, or a thousand other types of emotion.

This is all very normal. In fact, it is highly beneficial, for when you experience such emotional release you know you are healing yourself.

My Next Point Is Very Important For The Release Of Emotions

When these unhealed issues come to the surface, and they will, it is important you move through them smoothly to allow as much emotional healing as possible, with the least amount of discomfort.

So how is this possible:

  • Trust that whatever is happening is exactly what is meant to be happening for you. Let it be okay.
  • Do not judge your experience. It is different for everybody. There is no such thing as "should".
  • Do not resist what you are experiencing. Your resistance will greatly increase any discomfort.
  • The best way to stop resisting is to step aside from what is happening and just watch, like an observer.
  • By just noticing what is going on and not getting caught up in it, you can soften your resistance.
  • Don't try to stop yourself from feeling any emotions that may surface - that is resistance. Don't fight against anything that is happening. Accept it and allow it, knowing that it will pass.
  • Find comfort in the knowing that you are healing yourself.

It is highly likely that you will not even know what your surfacing emotions are about - and it doesn't matter! You do not need to know what the grief you are feeling relates to, or why you feel angry today, or what memory is causing your sadness.

This "stuff" will still be healed. There is no need to analyse anything.

You might also experience some physical responses while meditating such as restlessness, fidgeting, or even slight nausea. This is just part of the release process and is totally okay.

On the other hand, you may not experience much upheaval at all. And that too is fine. Just the fact that you are meditating means that you will be bringing unhealed material to the surface, even if you don't notice much.

But believe me, any amount of discomfort is well worth it! I know - I've been there and experienced it and come out the other side. As unpleasant as any upheaval may be at the time, you are gradually releasing all the things that were having a negative effect on your life and inhibiting your inner peace and happiness.

I highly recommend the use of flower essences to assist in the healing process. Flower essences are very safe and powerful healing catalysts and they are a major part of my life.
